Environmental Sustainability at Kruger

We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and contributing to a more sustainable future. Across our operations, we use resources responsibly, improve efficiency, and minimize our impact. Recognizing that our environmental performance can always be improved, we work with teams throughout our organization and value chain to apply continuous improvement principles and strengthen our practices over time. This is how we drive progress and contribute to the transition to a more circular and low-carbon economy.

Climate

Addressing climate change is central to our vision for sustainable prosperity. Through innovation and targeted projects, we are improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions across our operations while advancing toward long-term decarbonization and increased use of renewable energy.

Our Kruger Products division has set a 2030 Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity reduction target, while our Packaging division has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to define science-aligned Scope 1, 2, and 3 reductions. We are also contributing to the decarbonization of our communities by providing renewable energy solutions that enable others to reduce their own environmental footprint. Together with our suppliers and customers, we are driving impact beyond our own footprint.

Waste &
Circularity

As the largest recycler of paper and cardboard in Canada, Kruger places circularity at the core of how it manages materials and reduces waste. We are continually working to divert waste from landfill by improving how resources are used, recovered, and reintroduced into our processes. Through our Kruger Recycling division, we play an active role in recovering paper and integrating it back into production. By strengthening our understanding of waste streams and expanding reuse opportunities, we aim to reduce our footprint and support a more circular economy.

Highlights

Strengthening waste data and management
In 2026, we strengthened our waste management approach by conducting a company-wide mapping and data collection exercise across our sites. This work helped us better understand our waste streams, identify opportunities for reuse and recycling, and build a stronger foundation for future landfill reduction initiatives.

Advancing award-winning circular initiatives
Recognized in the Medium and Large Business category of the 2025–2026 Initiatives circulaires awards, Kruger highlighted circular economy initiatives at both its Trois-Rivières and Sherbrooke operations. These include Kruger Packaging’s internal zero-waste program at the Trois-Rivières plant and the recovery of polyethylene film residues from Kruger Products’ Sherbrooke plants in collaboration with Re-Plast Éco, helping recover materials that would otherwise have been sent to landfill.

Water

We recognize the importance of water as a shared and vital resource. Across our operations, we focus on improving water use efficiency and ensuring responsible treatment and discharge. Through our ongoing efforts to enhance our processes and monitor our performance, we aim to reduce our impact on surrounding ecosystems and contribute to the sustainable management of water resources in the communities where we operate.

Biodiversity

Protecting biodiversity is central to how we manage our environmental impact. Through sustainable forest management practices at our Corner Brook operations, we support the long-term health of forest ecosystems. We also prioritize sourcing fibre from responsibly managed forests and work with suppliers aligned with certification standards such as FSC®, SFI® and PEFC, with all of the fibre we procure coming from certified and sustainably managed sources.

Highlights

Strengthening certified fibre sourcing
In 2026, we expanded FSC® certification to our Brampton and Elizabethtown packaging plants to strengthen the sourcing, traceability, and use of certified materials across our Packaging division’s value chain.

Protecting local natural habitats
In July 2026, Kruger announced an agreement with Fondation Trois-Rivières durable to support the long-term protection of the former boisé des Estacades woodland area, now named the Grand boisé Kruger, in Trois-Rivières. The initiative will help preserve this natural area in perpetuity while maintaining community access to green space.
