Health and Safety
At Kruger, the health and safety of our employees is a fundamental value that guides our daily priorities. Across our operations, we implement company-wide standards to identify hazards, manage risks, and maintain safe working conditions.
Beyond regulatory compliance and equipment safety, our Human Performance Improvement (HPI) approach focuses on understanding how people work, identifying organizational weaknesses, and strengthening our ability to prevent incidents. By continuously challenging established practices and improving our systems, we aim to make safe work easier and build a more resilient safety culture.
Over the past five years, Kruger has reduced its total incident rate (TIR) by 50%.
Our approach is supported by practical tools that help employees and leaders anticipate risks, learn from experience, and continuously improve safety performance, such as:
- Just Culture Decision Tree: encourages learning from incidents while promoting fair and consistent accountability.
- Resiliency Scale: evaluates the effectiveness of safety barriers and identifies opportunities to strengthen them.
- Error Traps: identifies workplace conditions that increase the likelihood of human error.
- Housekeeping: promotes organized and safe working environments.
- Leader’s Intent: reinforces clear expectations and alignment between leadership and employees.
- Improved Practices: identifies and shares safer, more effective ways of working.
- Before-During-After the Task: encourages employees to anticipate risks, remain attentive, and learn from completed tasks.
Together, these tools help build a stronger safety culture by making it easier to identify risks, learn from experience, and improve the way work is performed.

Joseph Kruger II Scholarship Program
Launched in 2024, the Joseph Kruger II Scholarship Program is a flagship initiative designed to support the post-secondary education of employees’ children. The program provides $5,000 scholarships to students pursuing college, university or vocational studies and has grown rapidly since its inception, with 150 scholarships awarded in 2025 alone. By helping ease the financial burden of education, the program reflects Kruger’s commitment to supporting its employees and their families, while investing in student success and reinforcing the Company’s vision for the future.
Advancing Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (IDE)
Transcending generations, Kruger’s corporate values have consistently embraced and upheld inclusion as a fundamental principle. Today, our efforts to promote inclusion are part of our broader IDE approach, which aims to foster an environment where every team member feels recognized, respected, and genuinely valued. We anchor these efforts in our belief that diversity, equity, and inclusion strengthen us and empower us to achieve greater impact.
In 2025, Kruger established an IDE Working Group, initially focusing on defining a clear and purposeful mandate to ensure its efforts would be meaningful, aligned with business priorities, and sustainable over time. The group’s mission is to act as a strategic advisory body that helps shape and advance inclusion, diversity, and equity initiatives across Kruger. In collaboration with the executive team, the IDE Working Group identifies priorities, develops practical recommendations, and supports initiatives that foster an inclusive workplace culture aligned with Kruger’s leadership principles: inspiring engagement, nurturing expertise, and generating growth. Building on this foundation, the IDE Working Group has begun to deploy its action plan for 2026-2027.
Empowering Our Leaders to Drive Excellence
While every one of our employees plays a vital role in generating sustainable growth, it requires strong, purpose-driven leadership. To build this strong leadership, we have adopted the following principles:
- We integrate operational excellence as a fundamental mindset
- We connect our daily behaviours to the organization’s core purpose
- We consistently work towards our goal while focusing on developing our people
- We engage with and empower the entire organization in our continuous improvement efforts
With this in mind, we provide employees with tools and learning opportunities that reinforce these principles. For example, we use internal and external learning platforms to provide training on key subjects that are consistent with sustainable growth and prosperity, ensuring that our employees play an active role in achieving our collective goals.
Second Edition of The Kruger Emerald Plan
Launched in 2024, the Emerald Plan is a leadership program that aims to develop our current and future leaders, not only to boost their performance or ensure their alignment with our organizational goals, but also to create a supportive work environment that can foster more job satisfaction and enhance retention. This 15-month learning experience is delivered through external facilitation and internal mentoring to help participants gain the skills and abilities they need to reach the next level in their career path.
